David Ledford

David Ledford has almost 20 years of experience in the wildlife conservation community, and is a Certified Wildlife Biologist with the Wildlife Society. He has a B.S from the University of Tennessee in Wildlife and Fisheries Science and an M.S. In Forest Resource Management and Wildlife Biology from the University of Georgia. David came to the Appalachian Wildlife Foundation after working 8 years for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, gaining valuable experience in habitat conservation and wildlife restoration activities. Before that, he was the general manager of Groton Land Company. David also worked as the Director of Wildlife Programs for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation which was chosen as the winner of the American Forest and Paper Association's Wildlife Stewardship Award under David's leadership.

His experience with wildlife and habitat restoration and management is broad. He has worked on managing and researching bird communities in Costa Rica, aspen restoration and grouse management in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Longleaf pine and wiregrass restoration in the deep south, Bobwhite quail restoration from Louisiana to Virginia, habitat restoration on surface mine sites, Ponderosa pine management in Arizona, Bull trout habitat in Montana, implementing quality deer management throughout the Southeast, wetlands and waterfowl management, and elk habitat conservation all over the United States. David also has extensive experience in conservation planning, collaboration, lobbying, bridging gaps among multiple partners and interests groups, and providing wildlife management consultations to private landowners.

David has been an avid fisherman and hunter ever since he could walk, and that is what led him to pursue a career in wildlife conservation. He has been married for over 25 years to his wife Jennifer, and they have 5 children and one daughter in law.
